Postcard from... The Loire Valley
We visited a whole bunch of chateaus (or should that be chateaux?) during our trip to the Loire earlier this year. Despite the often unbearable overcrowding which inevitably accompanies a visit in the middle of August, it's hard not to be entranced by the sheer beauty of Chenonceau.
Inside, the rooms of the chateau are brought to life by floral decorations which are updated each week by the chatau's own team of in house florists.
Chenonceau has its own cuttings garden where a variety of flowers are grown including delphiniums, peonies, lilies and irises. Other natural materials such as branches, pine cones moss and lichen are also used in the floral workshop.
One of my favourite rooms was the kitchen with its fresh produce from the potager garden...
...rows of polished copper pans and jelly moulds,
and drying racks adorned with garlands and wire and wicker baskets.
