Threads of Feeling
This weekend is the last opportunity to catch the 'Threads of Feeling' exhibition at the Foundling Museum in London. If you can't make it, you can read some of the stories behind the exhibition in the March edition of World of Interiors.
On display are scraps of fabric (either provided by the mother or cut from the child's clothing) that illustrate the moment of parting as mothers left their babies at the Foundling Hospital. These or other small tokens were kept as an identifying record in case the child was later reclaimed by their mother. Sadly, most stories did not have a happy ending - of the 16,282 children admitted between 1741 and 170 only 152 were reclaimed.
Almost unbearably poignant, these scraps of fabric are incredibly beautiful too.
On a happier note, I'm off to visit my sister and new baby nephew this weekend. Do you have plans? Thank you so much for stopping by and visiting this week. Have a great weekend.
