The Earth's Finest Armchair

...well that's what Ikea are describing it as anyway!

It has been created by award-winning Swedish fashion designer Helena Hörstedt as part of Ecoration, a collaboration between Ikea and the World Wildlife Fund focusing on how we can live a more sustainable life at home.

In it's previous life it was just an old Ikea Poang armchair, you know.....  this one.

Helena has transformed it completely, padding it with worn quilts and pillows to give it an entirely new shape and adding a three-dimensional effect to the black linen cover with folds and pleats.

Ikea may not be the first company that springs to mind when you think about longevity and sustainability, but the intended message of the Ecoration project is that giving new life to old things contributes to a reduced environmental footprint.

The armchair is being sold online via ebay with proceeds from the sale going to the WWF in support of their work to save tropical forests. The auction opened today, and closes on Sunday 21 October. You'll find the link to the auction here.
