Recession Chair

Frank Tjepkema designed his Recession chair as a response to how little he felt his fellow designers were reacting to the economic crisis.

Starting with a simple Ikea chair, he took a sander to one corner and sanded it to "the finest possible version." The resulting chair is effectively non-functional except as a decorative statement - its strangely beautiful skeletal form evoking the fragile state of the economy.

"It most likely won't withstand the weight of the person it’s trying to support," says Tjep, "much like a society plagued by recession."
