London Design Festival 2012

Mimicry chairs - Nendo

I had planned to preview some of the things I'm looking forward to at London Design Festival today, but my broadband connection has been down, so unfortunately normal blogging service has been interrupted. Today's post is therefore brought to you (in somewhat abbreviated form) from my local coffee shop.

First up, I'm really looking forward to exploring the V&A, which will be the hub of the festival with a series of talks and installations. Nendo will be presenting these elegant, ghost-like chairs at the grand entrance and various other locations throughout the museum. At each site, the chair is modified to mimic the space it inhabits and the objects around it.

Design Junction London 2012

Design Junction promises to be an exciting new venue this year. It will feature more than 100 world-class international brands including Baccarat, Benjamin Hubert, Bocci, Content by Conran and De La Espada. There will be a Transport for London themed cafe, pop up shops from Dezeen, Phaidon, Diptyque and Falcon Enamelware and the venue will also host The Midcentury Modern Show for lovers of vintage design classics.

There's a huge amount to explore in the Brompton Design District. 1882 Ltd will be introducing Crockery, a collection of fine bone china tableware cast from hand plaster moulds hand-carved by Max Lamb, at Bamford (169 Draycott Avenue, London, SW3 3AJ).

Scimitar chair by Preben Fabricus and Jorgen Kastholm, (1962), Denmark - Carlisle London Ltd.

Not actually part of London Design Festival, but taking place at the same time is the LAPADA Art and Antiques Fair at Berkeley Square. Some of the pieces that have caught my eye include this 1960s Danish 'Scimitar' chair by Preben Fabricus and Jorgen Kastholm (above) and a collection of Ettore Sottsass jewellery. (see more of my LAPADA Fair preview picks on Obsessionistas)

Thanks to everyone who's sent me news of what they'll be up to at London Design Festival this year and I'm sorry if I haven't managed to get back to you all personally.

Finally, I'm really looking forward to meeting up with some of the many bloggers and designers I've connected with through Design Hunter. If you happen to spot me out and about please do say hello.
