RED Designer Talks at The Conran Shop: Russell Pinch
Today on Design Hunter, I'm delighted to be able to share exclusive extracts from the first of these talks, with furniture designer Russell Pinch and, coming up later, with neon artist Chris Bracey.
After graduating from London's Ravensbourne College of Design, Russell began his career working as a design assistant for Sir Terence Conran. He went on to be voted best newcomer by Blueprint and 100% Design in 2004, and last year won a Wallpaper* award for his Yves writing desk (pictured above). He began his own practice, Pinch, eight years ago, specialising in furniture, product and interior design.

The extracts below are full of valuable insights for anyone embarking on a career as a product designer or setting up their own design studio. Here he recalls how as a young graduate he secured a job working as a design assistant to Terence Conran.
In the second clip he talks about setting up his own company and exhibiting for the first time at 100% Design...
... and in part 3 he talks about the limited edition pieces he has produced for the RED exhibition at The Conran Shop and the new designs he is launching at Design Junction this week.
The RED designer talks at The Conran Shop continue on Saturday 22nd September with Benjamin Hubert and Natasha Daintry. Tickets are free of charge but must be booked in advance. Contact The Conran Shop for further details.
