GIVEAWAY: Between Dog and Wolf...

I'm really pleased to be able to share a great giveaway offer with you today. Actually I love the prize so much that I would secretly like to enter myself, so a warm welcome and big thank you to today's giveaway sponsors Between Dog and Wolf who are offering a beautiful set of concrete stacking pots to one lucky Design Hunter reader. I am definitely an admirer of their carefully curated collection of beautiful dark and moody homewares with its restrained aesthetic and focus on texture and materials - from felt and porcelain to concrete, terracotta and bark.

The range includes home accessories, textiles, tableware and children's gifts - simple contemporary design from both independent designers and established brands. I particularly love the tableware.

Read on for more details of the giveaway, but first Between Dog and Wolf founder Kathryn shares some of her inspirations.

Tell us the story behind the shop's unusual name…

I started learning French a few years ago. As I sat down one Autumn evening at my tutor's house, she pointed to the window whilst telling me in French it was 'the hour between dog and wolf'. I remember looking at her with my 'I'm confused, please help!' look on my face (which I used quite a lot during those lessons), and she kindly explained.  The phrase between dog and wolf refers to the passage of time from dusk to night, where the dimming light could confuse a dog for a wolf. It's also used to capture that transformation between the safe and expected, and the exciting, unknown and potentially dangerous - it's a phrase that really spoke to me and I knew I had to use it.

The shop was launched last year, and I'm slowly developing a range of products which I feel are reflective of this time and space - in their moody, muted colours, or creative design.

Which three words best describe your style?

Simple, tactile, and...grey!

What's currently your favourite item in the shop?

Ah, that's a tough one. Right now I'd say it's the double espresso cups. Handmade in Melbourne from French porcelain, they're like little works of art with beautiful curves. We stock them in pale concrete and dark slate colourways, they're perfect Between Dog and Wolf products.

Your favourite design object of all time?

Prouvé's Potence lamp. Although it may be the favourite as I'm coveting one for home at the moment. I've got the perfect spot too...

Who or what influences or inspires you?

My partner Rob (creator of the Trunki brand) certainly influenced my confidence to open Between Dog and Wolf; you can learn so much from someone else's business journey. As for inspiration, visiting new places, especially those known for their focus on design. I stayed in Stockholm recently, at the Story Hotel - I could barely eat my breakfast, the dining room had me captivated.

What's your idea of happiness?

Being outside, in the sunshine with a full belly and my loved ones (including cats Benny and Mac!) close by - trying to relax whilst I have half a mind on the next interiors project or new shop products...
