The House in the Sea

Few holiday homes can boast their own private suspension bridge, but that's exactly what awaits when you book a stay at The House in the Sea. Accessed via a 100 ft Edwardian clifftop footbridge, the property sits on Towan Island, an iconic Cornish landmark that will be familiar to many visitors to Newquay. It was until recently a private home, but has been newly unveiled following an eight month restyling project and is now available to let through Unique Homestays.

Inside the interiors mix old with new to give the property a lived in and loved feel. The owners, who spend a lot of time in New York, wanted to achieve a decor style that fused a "cool New York vibe with coastal luxury". Comfort is high on the agenda with sinkable sofas and sumptuous beds and the living areas have been designed to allow you to relax and recline while enjoying the stunning coastal views.

In the sitting room, oat coloured sofas are layered with plump cushions and wooden occasional tables provide a resting place for holiday reads or a glass of wine. Porthole style mirrors add a nautical touch and the wooden floor is softened by cosy rugs.

Upstairs, the master bedroom suite, approached via a private staircase, features a four poster bed.

The colour palette of chalky whites, inky blues and greys is inspired by the storm filled clouds and rocky outcrops of the Cornish landscape.

Outside there are enclosed private coastal gardens and two deck areas from which you can enjoy the far reaching sea views...

...and as if making the journey by suspension bridge isn't dramatic enough, you can even ceremoniously announce your arrival by hoisting the flag to signify that you are in residence.

The ultimate Cornish holiday rental?
