Handwoven rugs & wall hangings from Sardinia

Mio Karo is a Sardinia based project established by film director, illustrator and art director Carolina Melis, creating beautiful fine rugs and wall hangings handwoven by artisans on the island.

Available in Sardinian wool or cotton, the collection is created using a weaving technique known as pibiones, most commonly found in the central and eastern areas of Sardinia. The techique is a type of stiched relief made by twisting the yarn around a needle which is arranged in a horizontal position on the loom; the needle is then pulled away, creating a raised effect.

Textiles are an important part of the island's heritage, valued not only as ornamental pieces, but also for their symbolic values.

Creative director and designer Carolina Melis has also directed a beautiful film about weaving which you can watch here.
