Getting ready for autumn

After a busy few days at London Design Festival and Decorex it felt good to arrive home this week and think about getting the house ready for autumn. The garden furniture has been put away until next year and the woollen blankets and throws that were stored away in the linen cupboard during the summer months have re-emerged and are now back on the sofa (much to Albert whippet's delight).

Yesterday I had fun restyling our living room to accommodate a few new additions I'd love to share with you in collaboration with Homebase. As the nights started to draw in a few weeks ago I realised that our living room was really in need of a reading lamp. I looked around at a few different options and eventually settled on this Habitat Bobby floor lamp. I'm really pleased with how well it fits in. It doesn't dominate the space or demand attention, it just quietly, elegantly (and affordably) does the job, but there's also something rather light and playful about it that I love.

There have been several additions to my growing collection of succulents and I also seem to have accumulated a large pile of new books and magazines I'm looking forward to working my way through as the weather outside starts to turn colder.

The wooden block is a piece that lived in the garden until a couple of weeks ago when we decided it really deserved a better home - I love the silvery weathered effect it has as a result.

Little by little I find that I am starting to edit most of the brighter colours out of our home. I am just so in love with these soft silvery grey shades at the moment. The black and white print is by a photographer friend of mine and the velvet and hare print cushions are also from Habitat at Homebase.

Now I just need to find time to read all those magazines!
