The perfect leather tote
I adore beautiful handbags but have never really been bothered about having this season's must have It bag. Instead I like to ensure that I always have three key wear-with-anything options in my wardrobe: a tote for when I'm out and about and need to carry a whole day's worth of stuff around with me; a smaller cross-body bag for when I'm just popping out to meet a friend for coffee or taking the dog for a walk; and a clutch for smarter evening events when I need to don a pair of heels. Thanks to the lovely people at Shinola I'll be carrying all my London Design Festival essentials in this beautiful leather tote*.
Relatively new to the UK - the company opened its flagship London store in Soho last October - Shinola's philosophy is that products should be made by hand and built to last. Their Detroit studio is based in the building that once housed a General Motors' design centre and the company has leveraged the ingenuity and craftsmanship behind the city's car building heritage to create an expanding range of lifestyle products. You might already have come across the watches and bicycles for which Shinola is perhaps best known, but they also produce a range of durable, wearable leather products to which you can add your own personal touch with their bespoke monogramming service.
This is definitely a timeless go anywhere accessory rather than a one season wonder It bag. I can think of few outfits in my wardrobe that it wouldn't work with. When I'm not using it I'm happy to admire it from this little wooden hook in my all white bedroom where its beautiful depth of colour adds a welcome touch of warmth and texture. Plus its exactly the same shade of leather that I've previously coveted for chairs and interior accessories in this post and over on Pinterest.
Now if I could just get my hands on this amazing sofa to go with it!
