Inspired by Nature
It's always a joy when the clocks go forward. The morning light begins to take on a softer, warmer tone at this time of year and the evenings are suddenly longer and lighter. We've made it through the colder months, the garden is about to burst into bloom and it's time to start preparing the home for summer.
The new Summer home edit from John Lewis taps into this seasonal shift. Inspired by artisan craft and a love of nature it has a colour palette that draws its inspiration from 'honeyed mornings and long light evenings'.
Soft greys and wood provide a serene backdrop for a collection that features tactile natural materials, pared back floral prints and warm tones of mustard and honey. There are basket weave throws, slubbed linens, sisal placemats and chunky oak chopping boards.
Bees and the production of honey are a central theme of this edit - as well as inspiring the colour palette they also feature in patterns and motifs found throughout the collection. The base of this Kingsley table lamp (above top left), for example, features a honeycomb pattern that is achieved by hand blowing glass into wire mesh, while kitchen accessories including tea towels and a honey drizzler pot take a more literal interpretation.
I popped along to the new flagship John Lewis store in Birmingham recently to view the collection. It's one of the largest John Lewis stores in the country and has been thoughtfully designed to offer a pleasant and inspiring shopping experience with new in store concepts and great visual merchandising. I'll definitely be tempted back for future visits, although I'm also a fan of 'click and collect' as I love the convenience of being able to pick things up from my local branch of Waitrose.
I already use the Luna tableware from the Croft collection - I styled it for my Christmas table in this post - but I spotted a few other simple, harmonious pieces I'm now coveting, including a marble cookbook and tablet stand, these beautifully carved wooden serving platters and some cheerful honey toned cushions.
It's definitely a feel-good collection and one that's putting me in the mood to make a few subtle updates around the home to prepare for the warmer months.
