Show and Tell | The July Edit
The sun may have (hopefully only temporarily) disappeared, but from warmer evenings in the garden to weekend escapes to the coast we're loving summer 2017 so far. Here's a round up of a few of the things we've been up to this month.
Out and About
Earlier this month Graham and I escaped to Suffolk for a few days and stayed at the newly opened Five Acre Barn - a stunningly designed contemporary B&B a few miles from Aldeburgh. There'll be a post about our visit coming up very soon, but if you are looking to book somewhere for a last minute summer holiday in the UK then I really can't recommend this place enough... but be quick before everyone discovers it.
We also headed up to the Peak District with Whippet Bicycle and called in on the David Mellor design museum, shop and factory near Hathersage. This is their beautiful design studio and library which isn't open to the public but we were lucky enough to be given a private tour. What an amazing space this must be to work in - I just love the way the soft light falls on the stone walls. Graham's written a post about our visit over on the Whippet Bicycle journal.
I love our new look our bedroom since I painted the floors a month or so back. The old wood stain effect on the floorboards is gone and it now looks fresh and clean after a couple of coats of Farrow and Ball's 'Skimming Stone'. I'll share a full room reveal just as soon as I've decided on some new lighting and a few pieces of art for the walls. (I currently have my eye on this Kristina Krogh print from The Poster Club.)
In my wardrobe
There is nothing quite like striding out in new sandals with a straw basket to swing to put you in holiday mode. After seeing this one all over Instagram for the past couple of months I finally managed to pick one up at Violet and Percy and it's currently going everywhere with me.
A bathroom makeover is high on my home wish list right now so I'm looking forward to making it happen and am delighted to be working with soak.com. In the first of a series of posts I'll be writing for them, I shared my thoughts on some of the top bathroom trends for 2017, including statement baths and the increasing blurring of the boundary between bedrooms and bathrooms. This month I'm looking at ways to make your mornings more productive, organised and stress free and focusing on 5 ways to kickstart your day. Head on over to the soak.com blog to find out more.
I'm also excited to announce that I've been invited to be a jury panel member for the SCHOTT CERAN® Design Awards. The contest is being hosted over at Design Boom and the call for entries is open until the end of this month. The jury panel also includes Inga Sempe, Sebastian Conran and other esteemed figures in the world of design and architecture so I'm honoured to be in such amazing company.
If you are suffering from algorithm blues and looking to develop a strategy to grow your Instagram following then I really recommend this post from Amanda over at The Online Stylist. Amanda's posts are always honest and relatable and this one is a particularly good read because the advice she offers feels realistic and achievable. She was also kind enough to mention me on her "people who do the gram and do it well" list. Thanks Amanda!
In other exciting awards news Design Hunter has been shortlisted for Best Interiors Blog by EKBB magazine in their influencer awards which are to be held at a ceremony in London in September. I'm up against some tough competition - also on the shortlist are Mad About the House, Flat 15, Swoonworthy and the Pink House - all very talented bloggers and ladies that I admire hugely. It's now down to the public to choose the winner and I would absolutely love to have your support if you can spare a moment to vote. It only takes a few seconds and everyone who casts a vote ( the link to the voting page is here) will be entered into a draw to win a £50 voucher to spend with Rowen and Wren, which isn't a bad incentive as they've just added lots of lovely new things to their collection including this beautiful wool chevron rug.
As always thanks so much for reading this month and for all your comments, conversations and support over on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook too.
