Here’s a first look at the new collection from the Sheila Bownas archive which will be released next month. I wrote about the story behind the Sheila Bownas archive last year on Design Hunter. You can find out more here if you missed it.

Now Chelsea Cefai who uncovered the archive has collaborated with furniture brand Parlour to produce a sofa inspired by the daybeds of the 1950s, featuring the ‘Edwin’ pattern designed by Sheila Bownas in the late 1950s. 

Drawing upon Scandinavian and Japanese influences this wooden bench by Rüskasa features a Trompe l’oeil carved wooden upholstery seat.

Tactile and unexpectedly inviting, the design is constructed by hand using labour intensive techniques and will be presented as part of the Fresh Taiwan showcase at Tent London later this month.

I hope I’m not tempting fate by saying this, but if the weather forecasters are to be believed, we may at last be in for a decent run of warm, sunny weather this week. And it is June, so this month Design Hunter’s focus turns to outdoor living.

Brazilian Baroque, a major exhibition of work by The Campana Brothers opened at David Gill Galleries in London last week.

Combining the sumptuous and decorative Baroque style of the 17th and 18th centuries with the Campana Brothers’ own take on Brazilian art and culture, the collection includes a number of new pieces alongside a selection of works first shown at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris last autumn.

This furniture collection, inspired by the design features of handbags, is a collaboration between designer Mathieu Gustafsson and cabinet maker Nikias Karlsson of Grand.
