Cotswolds style | New cutlery designs from Robert Welch

Living in Warwickshire the Cotswolds is just a short drive away from us, and so its somewhere we often head to at the weekend. As well as chocolate box views and great walks the area is home to a wide choice of excellent places to eat. Kingham is a favourite destination for us (we love The Wild Rabbit and The Kingham Plough), and on a midsummer’s day there can be few places more idyllic than the gardens at Hidcote.

Head into some of the larger villages and towns like Broadway or Chipping Campden and you’ll find a number of good interiors and homeware shops too. We often call into the Robert Welch studio shop at Chipping Campden,  and nearly always seem to leave with a new piece to add to our growing collection of Robert Welch designs.

Good cutlery is an everyday luxury I’ve always valued – there is something very pleasing about sitting down to eat with pieces that are perfectly proportioned and weighted. I’ve tested out quite a few different cutlery ranges for Design Hunter over the past couple of years and the ones I find myself returning to use on a daily basis are always the ones that somehow just ‘feel right’ in the hand.

Released in time for summer al fresco gatherings Robert Welch have recently launched three new cutlery collections. They just happen to be named after some of my favourite Cotswolds destinations – Hidcote, Kingham and Bourton – and like the other Robert Welch designs I own they are also a joy to use.

The Kingham Collection

The Kingham collection has a clean, elegant profile and a classic contemporary aesthetic. Here I’ve teamed it up with simple white porcelain, a pleated napkin and the last of this year’s peonies.

The Hidcote Collection

Inspired by natural forms, Hidcote is an elegantly tapered design with a comfortable, tactile grip. I used gilt edged tableware and stems of Kangaroo Paw to create a slightly more formal look for this collection.

The Bourton Collection

The Bourton collection has a soft sleek profile and elliptical detailing at the neck. Here I’ve used crumpled linen napkins and fresh green herbs to create a tabletop with a natural, informal style that would suit a relaxed summer lunch.
