Kit Kemp at Wool House
Yesterday I went along to Somerset House to preview Wool House which opens today and runs until 24 March. The event, curated by Arabella McNie for The Campaign for Wool, has been designed to present a vision for wool as a modern, versatile lifestyle fibre and showcases wool used in interiors, fashion and craft.
With leading designers Ashley Hicks, Josephine Ryan, Anne Kyyro Quinn, Mary Fox Linton, Kit Kemp and Donna Wilson having each been invited to design a room set in the neo-classical splendour of Somerset House (in the space formerly occupied by the Inland Revenue!), I’d been looking forward to it…. and it didn’t disappoint.
There’s too much good stuff to squeeze into just one post, so I’ll be showing you around some of the different rooms over the next few days, but for today here’s a look at the stunning bedroom designed by Kit Kemp, interior designer, design director of Firmdale Hotels and author of A Living Space.
Carefree and colourful it features a wonderful combination of texture and pattern, including boiled wools embroidered with applique and embroidery to stunning effect. What you can’t make out from this picture is that the wallpaper is actually woollen cloth – quite amazing! I also loved the wonderful Lynn Chadwick candelabra which you can probably just make out on the coffee table – it’s from a forthcoming exhbition at Willer.
Wool House is at Somerset House until 24 March and is well worth a visit!
